Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description

A silver metal and epoxied shield shaped device 1-1/4 inch (3.18cm) in height blazoned as follows: Celeste, a chief invected Argent (Silver), charged with four six-pointed mullets Gules, issuant from base a demi city-scape consisting of three sky-scrapers of the second, surmounted in base by a cross couped of the third. Attached to the sides and bottom of the shield, a Silver tri-parted scroll inscribed “LOYAL, RELEVANT, READY” in Black letters.

Symbolism

The overall colors and four six-pointed stars are derived from the City of Chicago’s flag. The sky scrapers specifically denote the unit’s long association with Illinois and the Chicago area.  The buildings also convey a sense of strength and sterility, qualities of utmost importance for a Hospital Center.  Illustrating Chicago’s well-known nickname, “The Windy City”, the scalloped edge of the chief recalls clouds billowing overhead.  Additionally, in a nod to the numerical designation of the unit, there are three buildings, seven clouds, and four stars.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia for the 374th Hospital Center was approved 02 February 2022.
